Charity Needed -- We need more information and an economic rationale for building an $11 million justice center in this county.
One of the problems with the county's proposal to build a new justice center-aside from paying for it with an ill-advised sales-tax increase-is the lack of clarity over what is being proposed and why. Part of the "why" is very clear: the current county jail is in sub-standard condition. But we need more information and an economic rationale for the project, as well as more evidence that the commission has thoroughly researched alternative ways to fund it. -DRDefinitely a winner-- Becky Carlson earns her first state tournament title at Iola High School after a long and successful run at HHS.
Even though Hillsboro High teams didn't make it to state this year, we felt represented by former girls' coach Becky Carlson, whose Iola team won the Class 4A state tournament this weekend in her first year there after compiling a 333-149 mark in 21 seasons at Hillsboro.
Carlson, believed to be the winningest female coach in Kansas high school basketball history, has always been a winner, both on and off the court. We're pleased-but not surprised-to see her latest accomplishment. Congratulations! -DR
