Emily Smith and Joel Goering, both of Kansas City, Kan., together with their parents, announce their engagement and approaching marriage.
The bride is the daughter of Randy and Ann Smith of Hillsboro. She graduated from Newton High School in May 2001 and Bethel College in May 2005. She currently works for Kansas Social and Rehabilitative Services in Johnson County.
The groom is the son of Peter and Sara Fretz-Goering of Silver Spring, Md. A May 2004 graduate of Bethel College, he works as a community organizer for a not-for-profit organization in Kansas City.
The couple will marry July 1 at Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton.
