Building inspector Marty Fredrickson said the owners of the business would move to Marion from Lenexa if approval is given. He said the building has passed a state fire marshall's inspection.

Mayor Martin Tice called for postponing a decision after City Administrator David Mayfield brought up what licensing requirements such a business might need to have to insure protection for senior citizens.

City Attorney Dan Baldwin said there is probably a system for licensing similar to that for pre-schools, probably under the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. But he said he would look into requirements so the Commission could ensure that CACS is qualified.

Baldwin reminded the commissioners that checking into licensing goes beyond the scope the city has to do in doing a use permit.

Mayfield said he wanted to get bids together for curbing and guttering at various places in the city where the street siding is deteriorated. He said it is especially important to get curbing and guttering completed on South Third Street before the county builds a new street surface as it has promised after state reimbursement for highway detour during reconstruction of U.S. Highway 177.

The commissioners voted 3-0 to renew a 50 percent health insurance co-pay for employees on a program projected to cost $793.20.

Economic Development Director Jami Williams said she has contacted a company about the possibility of moving a warehouse to Marion. She said she also is helping a local man complete paperwork to start a new business using the micro loan program of the Kansas Department of Commerce.

Williams said she has received 100 feasibility study results back from residents concerning need for community pre-school.

Assistant City Clerk Angela Lange reminded residents that dog license fees change from $10 to $15 March 1. She said 131 licenses have been issued compared to a total 300 that were issued for last year.
