GHS band to play for KMEA workshop
The Goessel High School Concert Band will perform at 8 a.m. Feb. 24 in the Century II Concert Hall as one of six bands chosen to play for the 2006 Kansas Music Educators' In-Service Workshop.
This is the second time in three years that the band has been chosen by taped audition for this honor.
Under the direction of Bud Meisel, the 65-member group will perform John Chance's "Incantation and Dance," Eric Whitacre's "Sleep" and Brant Karrick's "Bayou Breakdown."
Hymn sing planned for Feb. 26 in WMEC
This month's community hymn sing will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Wohlgemuth Music Education Center looby on Tabor College campus in Hillsboro.
Jonah Kliewer will lead the singing time.
Girl Scouts to host Mall Madness
Girls in seventh through 12th grades are invited to participate in Mall Madness on March 4 and 5 at the Flinthills Mall in Emporia.
The event is sponsored by the Girl Scout council of the Flint Hills. Girls will spend the entire night inside the mall shopping dancing, watching movies, playing games and making new friends.
Cost is $8 for Girl Scouts and $11 for non-Girl Scouts. Moms and leaders stay for free.

So. Cottonwood 4-H to meet March 13
The South Cottonwood 4-H Club will hold its next monthly meeting at 7 p.m. March 13 in the Hillsboro City Building.
At the Feb. 13 meeting, junior leader Aubrey Meier called the meeting to order with a roll call of favorite Valentine sayings.
Kathy Fish led the members in a parliamentary procedure skit. Amy Bartel presented a project on sewing safety.
Bartel and Meier led a sing-along, followed with a game by Chase Meisinger and Jesse Meier. Iced Valentine cookies, brownies and red punch were served.

Hillsboro MB youth to serve spaghetti
The youth of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church will hold a spaghetti dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.
The event is a fund-raiser to send the senior-high youth to the 2007 national youth conference in Anaheim, Calif.

Hillsboro native to pastor in McPherson
Kathy Neufeld Dunn, daughter of Kenneth and Carolee Neufeld of Hillsboro, has accepted the call to pastor First Mennonite Church in McPherson.
She and husband Michael will move this summer from their home in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Dunn graduated in 1983 from Hillsboro High School, in 1987 from Bethel College and in 1991 from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkart, Ind.
She pastored Shalom Community Church for nine years, served as chaplain at an Ann Arbor retirement center for three years and is serving as half-time interim pastor at Peace Mennonite Church in Lawrence.
She will begin her pastorate in June or early July.
Centre FFA to host thank-you breakfast
The Centre FFA chapter will host a community-wide pancake feed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Burdick American Legion.
The meal will include pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee.
It is free of charge and open to all supporters of the Centre FFA chapter.
Local Girl Scouts to sell cookies at Vogt's
The Hillsboro and Lehigh Brownie and Junior Girl Scout troops will hold a booth sale of Girl Scout cookies from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Vogt's Hometown Market in Hillsboro.
Cookies are $3 per box. A portion of the proceeds will stay with the local troops.

Christian Endeavor Feb. 26 at Ebenfeld
A Christian Endeavor program will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church in rural Hillsboro.
Thomas Van Wart will give a visual report of his mission trip to Peru. The program will also include recitation of memorized Bible verses by first-graders and several musical numbers.
Goossen to share on summer service
Carmelita Goossen of rural Goessel will share of her experiences abroad at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.
Along with Trisha Gott, Shane Thoreson and Joe Vossen, Goossen served as a teacher at a children's summer camp in Izamal, Mexico.
During their 10-week stay in Mexico, Goossen and her team members taught more than 300 children about the environment, health, cooperation, historical Mayan culture and art in the Spanish language.
The team's travels were funded by the Lucinda Goossen Memorial Service Scholarship and additional donations.
