Marion's Hilltop Manor still in high demand, city hears PDF Print E-mail

Charles Heerey reported to the Marion City Commission Monday for the Marion Housing Authority that Hilltop Manor is always full with a waiting list of potential new residents.

Heerey said residents can pay anywhere from $50 a month to more than $300 a month in the income-sensitive single-bedroom units while a double unit may cost more than $500.

Heerey said the major improvement completed in 2005 was a storm shelter with emergency lights for 40 people at a cost of more than $69,000.

The commission passed a proclamation declaring this FFA week after Adam Depler, president, and Shawn Britton, vice-president, of the Marion High School chapter, read statements explaining the organization's importantance to farming and America's future.

The commissioners voted 3-0 to stay with Blue Cross Blue Shield for employee health insurance at about the same rates as last year.

They postponed further discussion of street sweeper bids until more bids come in.

The commission also postponed further discussion of bonds for an extensive street repair project until exact areas for repairs and some estimates of costs could be determined.

Measures approved included an addendum to the water sale contract between the city and Marion County Improvement District No. 2, transfer of $100,000 from the electric fund to the capital improvement fund for curb and gutter repairs, the January financial statement and investment and collateral report.

The meeting ended with two 15-minute executive sessions, one for personnel and one for attorney-client privelege with City Attorney Dan Baldwin.
