With their 55-35 loss to the Wildcats, the Warriors remain with only one win in the mid-Central Activities Association against seven losses.

The Wildcats were the first team to score as, 40 seconds after tip-off, Allie Maddox sank a 3-point shot. The Wildcat's Paula Stucky duplicated the feat to tie the score.

A jump shot by Marion's Adrienne Chamberland later tied the score at five each. Morgan Skomal of Haven scored and was fouled by Toni Gordon. The bonus free throw put Haven ahead by three.

With 4:28 to go, Erin Carr scored off a steal and Gordon quickly followed with a two-point basket that put Marion ahead by one.

During the last two minutes of the period, Marion held the Wildcats scoreless while Gordon scored another five to give the Warriors a 16-12 lead at the first break.

Haven scored the first points of the second period. The Wildcats also were the first to foul, sending Gordon to the line. Sinking one free throw and quickly making another basket, the Warriors again led by five.

After Julie Richardson made a free throw for Haven, Maddox made another basket for a 21-15 Marion lead at the 6:18 mark.

The Wildcats then went on a 13-2 run, and Haven led at halftime, 30-23.

"Down in the locker room, coach (Daryl Enos) told us we had to have the will to win or it wasn't going to happen," said junior Erica Geis said. "He told us we had to want it more than the other team."

But it wasn't to be. Haven started the third quarter with a 6-0 run to put the warriors behind by 16.

After Gordon made a free throw, she picked up her fourth foul with 2:25 left in the period. By the end of the third quarter, the Wildcats led by 20.

In the fourth quarter, both teams put up strong defenses, holding each other to nine points.

Asked about the the key factors in the game, Geis said, "We let our emotions take over the way we played and let the little things bother us way too much.

"There were a few main differences between how well we played last Tuesday and tonight (in a victory over Halstead). We didn't see the floor near as well and we didn't play hard all 32 minutes."

The top scorer for Marion was Gordon with 15 points. Maddox added 13. For Haven, Richardson scored 17.
