Tabor women win 68-50, men hang on for 60-56 victory
The sixth-rated Tabor women won their 13th straight game Thursday night in North Newton, defeating Bethel College 68-50.
Tabor struggled early and led by just two points, 20-18, with 5:41 to play in the first half but used an 11-2 run to open its advantage on the way to a 33-22 halftime lead.
The Bluejays then used an 8-2 run to start the final 20 minutes and cruised home with the easy 18 point win.
Tabor was led offensively by Donya Anderson with 14 points, Erica Hemmert added 12 and Stacie Herman contributed 11 points.
Bethel was led by former Marion Warrior Brandi Peterie-Shipman with 13 points.
Tabor hit 27 of 59 (46 percent) for the game from the field including four of 14 (29 percent) from the 3-point line.
Bethel was 17 of 40 from the field (43 percent) and three of nine (33 percent) from the 3-point arc.
The Bluejays won the rebounding battle 39-25 behind Anderson's six boards.
With the win, Tabor remains in control of the KCAC race at the midway point of conference play with a 9-0 conference mark, two full games ahead of its nearest foe while improving to 16-3 overall.
Bethel remains winless in conference play at 0-9 while falling to 2-16 with their 13th straight loss.
The Tabor men also came home with a big road win, defeating the Threshers 60-56.
Tabor trailed 26-22 with five minutes to play in the first half but closed the half on an 11-0 run to take a 33-26 lead into halftime.
The Bluejays scored the first three points of the half to open their lead to 1o points and pushed the lead to 14 with just seven minutes to play.
But Bethel ralled to cut the Tabor lead to three points, 59-56, with 15 seconds to play before Andy Brubacher hit one of two free throws to ice the Tabor win.
Tabor was led in scoring by Grant Brubacher with 13 points and Brad Gattis scored 11, all in the first half.
Bethel's high scorer was Jordon Regehr with 19.
Tabor was 22 of 50 from the floor (44 percent) including a four for 10 performance (40 percent) from behind the 3-point line while Bethel hit 19 of 55 shots (35 percent) and five of 17 (29 percent) from the 3-point stripe.
With the win coupled with Southwestern's loss at Sterling last night, Tabor moves into a tie for first place in the KCAC at the midway point of the conference race with a 7-2 conference mark while improving to 10-8 overall.
Bethel falls to 4-5 and 6-12.
Tabor travels to Lindsborg to face the Bethany Swedes Saturday night with the women slated to tip off at 5:00 and the men at 7:00.
