Seventh-rated Tabor wins ragged game over 16th-rated Jets The seventh-rated Tabor College women hosted 16th-rated Newman University in a rare Monday night outing and in the end it was the Jets that ran out of fuel as the Bluejays defeated the Wichita school 76-72.

The fast paced game produced 58 turnovers between the two school including 28 from the Bluejays.

In the first half, Newman used five of 13 shooting from the 3-point line and connected on seven of eight free throws and built a lead of as many as 10 points at 32-22 with 2:52 to play in the half.

Tabor managed to whittle the lead to five at 34-29 by halftime before mounting a second half charge.

After Newman rebuilt its lead to eight points at 46-38 at the 15:42 mark, Tabor used an 11-2 run to take its first second half lead at 49-48 with 11:55 remaining.

The next six minutes saw the lead change hands seven times before Erica Hemmert scored to give Tabor a lead of 56-55 and a lead the Bluejays wouldn't relinquish the rest of the night.

Tabor would build its lead to as many as 10 points at 72-62 with 1:05 to play but late free throw woes by Tabor allowed the Jets to remain close and cut the lead to just two points at 74-72 with 12 second remaining.

But Stacie Herman calmly sank a pair of charity tosses with six second left to provide the final cushion and margin of victory for the Bluejays.

Herman led the Tabor offense with 18 points, Erica Hemmert added 16, Emily Vogts had 13 and Donya Anderson chipped in 11 for the Bluejays.

Tabor connected on 29 of 67 field goal attempts (43.3. percent) including just two of 11 (18.2 percent) from the 3-point arc and struggled at the charity line as well, converting just 16 of 29 attempts (55.2 percent).

Newman meanwhile, hit 38.1 percent from the field (24 of 63) but managed to drain 10 of 22 (45.5 percent) of its 3-point tries and produced a 14 of 16 effort (87.5 percent) at the free throw line.

Tabor won the rebounding battle 42-31 led by Emily Vogts who hauled in 10.

With the win, Tabor improves to 13-3 for the season while Newman falls to 10-5.
