Delta Kappa Gamma celebrates birthday

The Alpha Omega chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met Dec. 3 at the home of Mary Olson in Marion.

Pauline Holub presided at the meeting of 17 members and one guest. Devotions with a Christmas theme were led by Betty Bernhardt.

LeOra Grunau conducted the chapter's birthday celebration with the assistance of several members. She spoke of the gifts of joy, patience, strength, laughter, happiness, smiles, faith, grace, life's little extras and peace for each member.

Grunau also accompanied the singing of Christmas carols.

Concluding the morning was a soup-and-salad luncheon served by hostesses Terry Klenda and Mary Olson.

MCSEC board to meet Dec. 19 in Florence

The Marion County Special Education Cooperative Board of Directors will meet at noon Monday, Dec. 19, in the MCSEC conference room, 302 W. Eighth, Florence.

The meeting will take place as a conference call.

Christmas with Santa Dec. 17 in Lincolnville

The city of Lincolnville's annual Christmas with Santa Claus will be held Dec. 17 at the Lincolnville Fire Department.

Cookies and hot chocolate will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Christmas stories will be read from noon to 2 p.m., when Santa Claus will arrive.

The public is invited to attend.

Kleiber attends Agri-Women event

Carolyn Kleiber of Hillsboro attended the Kansas Agri-Women Christmas luncheon Dec. 3 at Farm Service Agency in Manhattan.

Kleiber is a former president of Kansas Agri-Women, a former treasurer of American Agri-Women and is currently membership chair of Kansas Agri-Women.

At the luncheon, 11 women who had attended the American Agri-Women convention in Monterey, Calif., gave a report on the "Waves of Change" taking place in Californian and Kansan agriculture.

The 2006 convention will be in Miami, Fla.

Peabody-Burns bands to perform Dec. 20

The Peabody Burns junior-high and senior-high bands will present their annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, in the Brown Building Concert Hall.

The concert will feature seasonal music by the PBJH Tomahawk Band, the PBHS Warrior Band and the PBHS Stage Band.

The high school band will present "A Mannheim Steamroller Christmas" followed by the traditional Christmas story, with Marilyn Cox narrating and Sheryl Simmonds as guest vocalist.

The public is invited to attend.

Parkview theme: 'It's All About Jesus'

Several events on the theme "It's All About Jesus" are planned for the Christmas season at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

A children's musical program is planned for 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18.

A Christmas Eve service about "Coming Home" will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a 10 a.m. Christmas morning service about "Jesus, the Gift."

Sunday school classes will not meet Christmas morning.

Ebenfeld to present kids' musical Dec. 18

Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church of rural Hillsboro will hold its annual children's Christmas program at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18.

This year's musical is "Why the Chimes Rang," a story about a brother and sister who learn that size doesn't matter when you give your best to Jesus.

The musical is written by Julia R. Neufeld and Margaret R. Tucker and based on the story by Raymond MacDonald Alden.

Ebenfeld is located one mile east of Hillsboro on D Street and four miles south on Kanza Road.

The public is invited to attend.

Marion schools plan concerts Dec. 15, 17

Marion Elementary School's fourth-to-sixth-grade choir will holds its Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at the city auditorium.

The Marion High Singers will be in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the city auditorium.

Vicky's students to give recital Dec. 17

More than 100 of Vicky Mohn's dance students will be performing ballet, tap and jazz for the "Winter Wonderland" recital Dec. 17 at the Hillsboro High School Auditorium.

The younger students will be performing from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the older students from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

GHS band, choirs to perform Dec. 20

The Goessel High School Music Department will present its Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 in the high school auditorium.

The 65-member Bluebird band, under the baton of director Bud Meisel, will perform four selections.

The 68-member concert choir, under the direction of Greg Bontrager. then will perform a variety of Christmas music.

Also featured in the concert will be the Elbiata Singers.

As is tradition to close the concert, community members will be invited to join the choir on stage for the "Hallelujah Chorus."

County Christmas set for Dec. 17 in Durham

The public is invited to attend a "County Christmas in Durham" at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the community building.

The event will include horse-drawn wagon rides, hot dogs and hot chocolate, and candy sacks for the children.

Dance students offer to babysit Dec. 31

Babysitting for infants through children age 10 will be offered from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. New Year's Eve by the students of Movement Connection Dance Studio, 110 N. Fourth, Marion.

The event , which will include food, crafts and games, is a fund-raiser for the students' costumes and competitions.

The fee is $2.50 per hour or $25 for the night. The third child in a family is half price.
