The Marion City Commission Monday deeded the city swimming pool and surrounding property to Unified School District 408 subject to the school financing a new swimming facility there by bond issue on or before July 1, 2006.
Along with this, the commissioners approved 3-0 an interlocal lease and operational agreement that allows the city to operate the pool for one year.
Commissioner Max Hayen pointed out that the legal description on both agreements doesn't appear to be quite right, so both documents were approved subject to the real estate description being corrected.
The value exchanged on each was $1 for the sale of the land and $1 for the lease of it.
The school has voiced its intention to proceed with building a gymnasium with indoor pool and outdoor pool at the location subject to agreement with the city and financing.
Mayor Martin Tice said he expects the school board to meet next week.
Under the terms of the lease, the city will retain full access to the pull along with continuing the responsibility for insurance coverage, he said.
The commissioners approved a resolution granting the owner of a structure at 110 S. Lincoln St. 120 days to demolish it.
The commissioners accepted the resignation of former Mayor Eloise Mueller as chairman of the economic development board. Tice said they would refrain from naming a successor until Jami Williams is "on board" as economic director after the first of the year.
