Tabor women prevail 62-53, men fall to Moundbuilders 81-76 The 9th ranked Tabor College women defeated Southwestern Thursday night in Winfield 62-53.

Tabor led by as many as 17 points, 32-15, in the first half before settling for a 32-19 lead at halftime.

But Southwestern battled back in the second half, cutting Tabor's lead to just six points, 56-50, with under a minute to play before strong free throw shooting down the stretch preserved the Tabor win.

Stacie Herman led Tabor offensively with 18 points, followed by Jill Hein with 13 and Donya Anderson who had 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Tabor connected on 23 of 52 field goal attempts (44.2 percent) for the game including 7 of 16 (43.8 percent) from the 3-point arc and 9 of 12 (75 percent) from the foul stripe.

With the victory, Tabor remains in a tie at the top of the conference with Ottawa with a 3-0 KCAC record while improving to 8-3 overall.

It was a completely opposite story for the Bluejay men who led early but trailed 47-37 by halftime to the 19th ranked Moundbuilders.

It got worse for Tabor in the second stanza when Southwestern pushed its lead to 18 points, 57-39, with 15:48 remaining.

But Tabor used a strong inside game and heated up from the outside to methodically trim the 'Builder lead to a single point at 75-74 with 2:19 to play.

But consecutive turnovers by Tabor thwarted the comeback effort as Southwestern hung on for the 81-76 win.

Brad Gattis continued his strong offensive output leading Tabor with 24 points and 11 rebounds while Jared Reese chipped in 17 points.

Tabor hit just 38.6 percent (27 of 70) from the field including 8 of 27 (29.6 percent) from the 3-point arc and 14 of 21 (66.6 percent) from the free throw line.

The Bluejay outrebounded the 'Builders 42-39, the first time Southwestern has been outrebounded in a game this season, but it wasn't enough to earn the Bluejay victory.

With the loss, Tabor falls to 2-1 in conference play and 5-5 overall while Southwestern improves to 2-1 and 11-1.
