Tabor's first KCAC road trip successful

Bluejay women win 70-64, Tabor men victorious 78-70 Both the Tabor College women and men got the KCAC road portion of its schedule off on the right foot by posting big wins at Sterling Saturday night. The Tabor women defeated the Warriors 70-64 behind 19 points from Donya Anderson, 17 points and 10 rebounds by Emily Vogts and 14 points by Stacie Herman. Tabor streaked to a 12 point first half lead before settling for a 30-26 halftime advantage. The Bluejays still led by 10 points, 60-50, with 5:22 to play, but as expected, Coach Lonnie Kruse's Warriors staged a late rally that drew them to within a single point at 62-61 with 2:00 remaining. But a pair of Vogts field goals pushed the Tabor advantage back to five points and the Bluejays held on for the six point win. Tabor connected on 43.9 percent (29-56) of its field goal attempts including 4 of 9 (44.4 percent) from the 3-point line in the victory. With the win, Tabor remains perfect in the KCAC at 2-0 while improving to 7-3 overall. The Tabor men had a similar story as they bolted to a 16 point first half lead only to see it shrink to just seven points, 39-32, by halftime. The Bluejays rebuilt their 16 point lead in the second half only to see the Warriors charge back to within four points with just over a minute to play, but clutch free throw shooting down the stretch preserved the Tabor victory. Brad Gattis led four Bluejays in double figures with 18 points, followed by Grant Brubacher with 16, Andy Brubacher added 14 and Tyler Weinbrenner chipped in 12. Tabor sizzled from the field, hitting 24 of 42 (58.5 percent) for the game including an amazing 10 of 14 (71.4 percent) from behind the 3-point arc. The Bluejays also connected on 20 of 27 (74.1 percent) free throws after hitting just 12 of 24 against Bethany on Thursday. With the win, Tabor moves to 2-0 in conference play and 5-4 overall. The Bluejays travel to Winfield on Thursday to battle the Moundbuilders with the women's game set to tip off at 6:00.
