I don't normally like to sit in one place too long, but it would have been a good idea if I had been in our office last week when broadcaster Jim Lehrer of the "PBS News Hour" stopped by for information about a story.
Wish I could have met him, but maybe next time.
The Tabor Bluejays have made believers out of football fans and those who play our football contest each week.
Nearly all picked Tabor to win this past Saturday. Why not? They haven't lost any games yet.
I don't know if others have noticed, but it seems as though many more trains are running these these days and most are loaded to the gills with containers.
A little research turned up the reason, but it wasn't what I thought it would be. A huge number of these containers are from China on their way to Europe.
It is cheaper to send them overland across the United States than it is to ship them around the tips of South America and Africa.
The word for this week is "putrescible." I found it in the City of Hillsboro Ordinance 1115 regarding refuse collection and disposal.
It means: "Able to rot quickly enough to cause odors and attract flies."
Lately, it seems, all I've been doing is replacing light bulbs around the house. When one goes out, they all seem to go. Maybe they just burn for so many days and that's it. That would explain why they quit working in unison.
Now that it's getting colder, it's hard to get motivated to get out and walk my two miles regularly. The other night, as I just headed out the door, I ran into other walkers I will call Cheryl and Marlin. I asked to go along and they let me. It's so much more fun when there is conversation and laughter.
I learned a new route and also was told it's not wise to walk during suppertime because the smells that waft from the houses can be very distracting.
I heard that a baby can gain as much as 50 pounds a month by drinking elephant milk. This only works with baby elephants, however.
It is easy to be thankful during this Thanksgiving season-and any other time of the year, for that matter. Our real wealth isn't measured in riches. We have more than we could ever want. We have family, relatives, friends and associates to love and love us back, not to mention plenty to eat and a safe and comfortable place to live.
Our blessings are endless and it is a good thing to set aside a time of the year to reflect on these things.
