The annual turkey dinner at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church is set for 5 p.m to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.
The ladies of the church will bake homemade pies and rolls, to be served with the traditional dinner of turkey, dressing, potatoes and gravy and green beans.
Those who would like carry-out dinner can call 947-5643 between 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to let the church know how many dinners they want. Pick-up time for carry-outs in from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the south entrance of the fellowship hall.
Cost is by donation.
Marion library to read 'No Matter What'
The Marion City Library will promote the Kansas One Book, One State Program "Kansas Reads...to Preschoolers" during National Children's Book Week Nov. 14-19.
The goal the program is that every Kansas child between the ages of 0 to 5 years will be read to during that week.
The Marion library will hold a storytime for children ages 3 to 6 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, to commemorate the program's selected book, "No Matter What," written and illustrated by Debi Gliori.
Library staff also will visit local licensed day cares and preschools during the following week and read the book to children.
Free books will be given each day to the first five families that visit the library during the week. A limited supply of book bags will also be given to children.
Legacy Park to host
Adelines Nov. 10
The Sweet Adelines will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Legacy Park in Peabody.
They were scheduled to perform Oct. 27 but had to postpone.

Buffalo auction set for Nov. 16 at refuge
Kansas Wildlife and Parks will hold its annual buffalo auction Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, located six miles north of Canton.
Friends of Maxwell will offer a tour by reservation of herd on the prairie at 10 a.m. The auction will begin at 11 a.m., with approximately 75 head for sale.
The lunch tent at the auction site will serve buffalo burgers, chili, pie and drinks. The tour center have displays and a gift shop.

C-GHS honor society plans Veterans event
The Canton-Galva High School chapter of the National Honor Society is presenting its annual Veterans Day program from 10:50 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in the high school gymnasium.
The program is open to all students and community members and will include patriotic readings and live music provided by students and faculty.

Rosebank Church to collect shoebox gifts
Rosebank Church of Hope will serve as an official collection site for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes Nov. 14 to 20.
Participants in OCC, a project of Samaritan's Purse, fill shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, hygiene items and photos. The boxes will be hand-delivered to needy children around the world.

Centre school reunion planned for Nov. 26
All former Centre Unified School District students are invited to an all-school reunion Nov. 26 in the Pilsen Community Center.
A banquet will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a dance from 9 p.m. to midnight.

FCCLA 'Elf' auction to aid Katrina relief
The Hillsboro FCCLA chapter will host an "Elf" auction Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Hillsboro High School cafeteria.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a Christmas dessert buffet for all who wish to bid on a member to do four hours of community service.
The proceeds will go to help the rebuilding effort in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Diabetes fair set for Nov. 12 in Peabody
A diabetes fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Legacy Park, 407. N. Locust, Peabody.
Ruth Reed, an advanced registered nurse practitioner and diabetes educator, will give presentations at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and the need for proper treatment.
Marion County Extension office will offer two demonstrations at 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. on cooking for those with diabetes.
The Kansas Lions Sight Foundation Mobile Screening Unit, sponsored by Region 3, Zone I Lions of Kansas, will give vision and hearing checks.
Legacy Park staff will assist with blood pressure and blood sugar checks.
Others participating in the fair are David Topham of Nova Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, staff from Central Kansas Podiatry and certified massage therapist Shirley Davis.

Veterans Day program Nov. 11 in CES gym
Centre Elementary School will host a Veteran's Day program at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the school gymnasium.
Area veterans and their guests are invited to attend the program honoring their service.
The program will include a patriotic sing-a-long, a performance of the "Star-Spangled Banner" by the Centre High School choir and a concert by K-4 vocal music students.
Refreshments for veterans and the guests will be provided immediately after the program in the cafeteria.
Veterans Sunday set for Nov. 13 in Burns
Veterans Sunday will be observed during the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday, Nov. 13, at Burns united Methodist Church.
All area veterans are invited to attend the service, which will feature special music and recognition of each veteran present.
Veterans attending the service are encouraged to bring a photo of themselves in uniform and to share a brief story or memory from their time in the service.
Refreshments will be served after the service.
Burns UMC will also honor local individuals serving overseas by collecting items and letters of encouragement to send in a care package to each of them.

Lake residents hold last Chat and Dine
More than 60 family members and guests of Marion County Lake residents attended the season's final meeting of Chat and Dine Nov. 5.
Following the chili and soup supper, Banker's Life representative Jon Stockham presented a program covering investments by seniors, long-term care and coverage variations available under the Medicare prescription drug program. Recognitions were given for first-time attendance, birthdays and anniversaries. November birthdays were Melissa French, granddaughter of the Tolands; Jon Stockham; Rachel Toland and Ervin Hogg, uncle of Judy Reno, celebrating his 89th birthday. Judy and Wayne Reno and Martha and Dick Pracht are celebrating November wedding anniversaries.
Recent Lake resident Sue Clough received the first-time attendance award as well as one of the door prizes. Other door prize winners were Dennis Carrie, Don Kirchmer and Marion Toland.
Treasurer Nadine Iseli presented the financial report to Nov. 1. Expenditures to date had not required use of balance funds in April. Other business addressed was membership approval of expenditure of $130 to $150 for a mailing in March to lake residents to inform them about the 2006 Chat-and-Dine season.
Jason Kirchmer presented the slate of nominees for the 2006 coordinating committee: Don Kirchmer, park representative; Wilma Gilmer and Rachel Toland, west side of the lake; Nadine Iseli and Jean McKellips, east side of the lake; and Neysa Eberhard, part-time residents. No additional nominations were made and the slate was approved.

Goessel High to give 'Bye, Bye Birdie'
The Goessel High School music department will present "Bye, Bye Birdie" under the direction of Greg Bontrager at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 and 12.
The story centers on Albert J. Peterson (Kyle Unruh), a man hoping to make his fortune and get the girl who just happens to be his secretary, Rosie (Brittany Voth), by promoting the big send-off for newly drafted pop star Conrad Birdie (Nathan Amstutz).
The story unfolds as Albert, Rose and Conrad invade the quiet lives of the Macafee family (Kellen Jenkins, Janessa Wedel, Brett Goerzen) while Albert's domineering mother (Sara Unruh), attempts to keep him from his true love.
All members of the 67-voice high-school choir will be involved in some aspect by portraying star-struck teenagers and their "fed-up" parents.

Hunters' feed set for Nov. 12 in Ramona
The Ramona Fire Department will sponsor a hunters' feed Saturday, Nov. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Parish Hall at Fourth and E streets in Ramona.
A breakfast of pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice will be served from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 .m. with a choice of chili or homemade noodle soup with butterballs, all-beef hot dogs, tea or coffee and a cinnamon roll.
Donations for the meals will go toward a new-and-improved fire station in Ramona.
Free health screens by Lions Nov. 12
Lions Mobile Screening Unit will be in Lincolnville from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, and in Ramona from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Nov. 12.
Free screenings will be provided for diabetes, hearing, vision and blood pressure. The event is sponsored by area Kansas Lions.

Twenty-three Goessel High School students attended the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Fall Leadership Academy Oct. 26 at Lyons High School.
More than 400 Kansas students attended the event that celebrated FCCLA's 60th birthday.
