Goessel Bluebirds battles Hope before dropping 34-24 decision

Hope 34, Goessel 24- Goessel gave state-ranked Hope all it wanted Friday in Goessel but fell short.
A slow start by Goessel contributed to the loss as Hope posted a 20-0 second-quarter lead.
Goessel got on the board when Justin Fensky scored from three yards out to cut the lead to 20-6. But the Lions took a 28-6 lead by halftime.
In the second half, Goessel showed why it's become a respected team, outscoring Hope 18-6.
"We held them to 19 total yards in the second half," coach Justin Coup said.
In the third quarter, Adam Goering scored on a one-yard plunge to whittle the lead to 28-12. But Hope answered to push the advantage to 34-12.
Goessel rallied as Chad Schrag pulled in a six-yard scoring pass from Garrett Hiebert to cut the lead to 34-18. Heibert added a one-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to slice the lead to 34-24.
Goessel rolled up 13 first downs to just only six for the visitors, Goessel had 138 yards rushing on 47 carries while Hope had 219 yards on 38 carries.
The Lions racked up 127 yards on 14 penalties while Goessel was assessed 25 yards on four penal-
ties.
Fensky led the rushing attack with 21 carries for 74 yards and, on defense, had 11 tackles. Kyle Unruh also made 11 tackles.
Hiebert completed 10 of 19 passes for 86 yards. Unruh caught two for 45 yards.
"The second quarter hurt us," Coup said. "I was proud of how we competed in the game and (we) should learn from this game."
With the loss, Goessel falls to 3-2 overall and will host Melvern-Marais Des Cygnes on Friday.
Centre 49, White City 0-Centre had no trouble at White City Friday night. The Cougars led 34-0 at halftime and were never threatened.
Centre had a balanced offensive attack, rolling up 180 yards rushing on 35 carries while throwing for 163 yards on 7-of-11 passing by quarterback Dustin Burnett.
Seth Jirak scored three times on runs of one and 50 yards and a 51-yard punt return.
Lance Diepenbrock scored on runs of two and 22 yards while Burnett threw for two scores-for 33 yards to Bryant Gutsch and 51 yards to Thieen Antoszyk.
Jirak led the rushing attack with 73 yards on seven carries while Brent Potocnik hauled in two passes for 14 yards and Antoszyk had two receptions for 67 yards.
On defense, Jirak recorded 15 tackles, Aaron Bowman nine and Steve Hageberg eight.
With the win, Centre improves to 3-2 and plays a home contest with Bern this Friday.
Canton-Galva 39, Peabody-Burns 26-The Eagles (5-0) remained undefeated Friday with a win over Peabody-Burns (3-2).
