Open house for Nightengales' 50th

Don and Twylah (Schmidt) Nightengale of Florence will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Burns Community Center.

They were married Sept. 20, 1955, at First Mennonite Church of Burns.

Don has retired from farming but continues as a self-employed oilfield technician. Twylah retired in 1999 from Florence Health Care as food service supervisor and is employed part-time at Brenda's Bloomers and Gifts in Marion.

The event will be hosted by their children: Peggy and Doug Leitzen of Marengo, Ill., Janet and Bud Turner of Eureka and Carol Nightengale of Topeka.

The couple have five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. They request no gifts.

Family celebration for Friesens' 60th

A family celebration for the 60th wedding anniversary of Harry and Millie Friesen of Hillsboro was held July 22 to 25 in the home of daughter Grace Steele in Tyler, Texas.

The couple were married June 1, 1945. They served as Mennonite Brethren missionaries in Japan from 1951 to 1992 and from 1997 to 1998.

The event was attended by all six children and spouses, Marilyn and Ken Fast of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Steve and Bobbie Friesen of Newton, Grace and Eldon Steele of Tyler, Joyce and Jim Herrington of Krasnodar, Russia, Phil and Susan Friesen of Concord, Calif., and Debbie and Bill Phillips of Dallas, Texas; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Card shower request for Kyles' 60th

The family of Glenn and Betty Kyle of Peabody request a card shower in honor of their 60th anniversary.

They were married Sept. 6, 1945, in Burns.

Cards may be sent to 2139 E. 30th, Peabody.
