Aulne UMC to host

'Fun in the Son'

Aulne United Methodist Church will host its second annual Fun in the Son Saturday, Aug. 27, at Central Park in Marion.

Free ice cream floats and games for all ages will begin at 6 p.m. Singing and celebration with the Aulne praise team, as well as a performance by the Aulne ladies' trio "Audience of One," will follow at 7 p.m.

The public is invited to attend and encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

In case of rain, the event will be held at the church, 1415 Pawnee Rd., Aulne.

GHS to host annual scrimmage, meal

The 12th annual football/volleyball scrimmage and hamburger fry is set for Aug. 26 in Goessel.

The meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by volleyball at 6:30 p.m., football at 7:30 p.m. and a booster club meeting at 8:30 p.m.

Donations for the meal are appreciated. Proceeds will go to the Goessel High School athletic department.

The community is invited to come support the Goessel Bluebirds.

Landscaping class

at Dyck Arboretum

The Dyck Arboretum in Hesston will offer a class on the basics of establishing a natural garden from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30.

The arboretum's annual fall native and adaptable plant sale is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 and from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 11. A members-only sale will be held Sept. 8 and 9.

Proceeds from the sale help fund the arboretum and the mission of "helping educate people about the benefits of appreciating, preserving and utilizing native and adaptable plants."

Retired school

personnel to meet

The members of the Marion Area Association of Retired School Personnel cordially invite all retired school personnel to the fall luncheon meeting at noon Sept. 1 at the Hillsboro Senior Center.

A program will be given by Linda Ogden, director of Communities in Schools, on "Overview of Children and Families in Marion County Today."

Tampa meeting

to plan Santa Fe Fest

The Tampa Community Association will meet at 7 p.m. Sept 1 at the Tampa Senior Center to plan the Santa Fe Trail Fest.

The public is invited to attend.

Back-to-Girl-Scouts Swim Aug. 28

All K-12 girls in the Hillsboro/ Lehigh area are invited to a Back-to-Girl-Scouts Swim from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Hillsboro Municipal Pool.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the scout house.

CG&S open house for

Friesen's retirement

A retirement open house for Wayne Friesen will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Cooperative Grain and Supply main office, 135 N. Main.

Friesen is retiring as crop production supervisor at CG&S.

Concert on Aug. 28 at Springfield Park

The Annual Spring Valley Mennonite Music Program will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Springfield Park three miles south of U.S. Highway 56 on K-15.

The program will feature a quartet, Abundant Joy, of members Evelyn and Ron Ogle of Hutchinson, Karen and Wayne Gehring of Halstead, and Ellen Mathias of Hutchinson on piano and husband Paul Mathias at sound control.

Loren Ratzloff and Gail Jordan will provide music at intermission.

Please bring your own chairs. Drinks will be provided.

Girls Scout sign up in Marion Aug. 31

Girl Scout registration for Marion will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

A Cub Scout roundup will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at Centre School.

Designed for boys ages 7 to 10, Cub Scouts is a division of Boy Scouts of America.
