Despite subpar funding in the past, Kansas schools rank seventh in the nation when it comes to performance.
Kansas public school teachers and administrators, including our own, can start a new academic year knowing that even without the recent court-mandated boost in school financing, they were doing a pretty good-and pretty efficient-job of educating our children.
Recently, the National Association of Education Progress reported that Kansas public schools rank seventh nationally when it comes to performance. In our region, Kansas schools ranked No. 1. Colorado is second, Iowa third, Nebraska fourth, Missouri fifth, Texas sixth and Oklahoma seventh.
When it comes to the cost of education, Kansas ranks 40th. Our schools are seventh from the top in performance, but 10th from the bottom in funding support. From these facts, we should conclude that education in Kansas is both extremely cost-effective and extremely efficient and productive.
The truth is, Kansas educators are doing a great job under stressful conditions. -DR
