Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church will host a bake sale starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 115 E. Grand.
All proceeds will go to the church building fund.
Joyful Noise CCC to serve Mexican meal
Joyful Noise Community Child Care Board will serve its Mexican Special Meal Deal immediately following the morning parade Saturday, Aug. 6, at Goessel Threshing Days.
The $5 meal, including a dessert and drink, will be held on the Mennonite Heritage Museum ground just north of the one-room schoolhouse.
Proceeds will go to Joyful Noise CCC.
United Way kickoff
at county fair Aug. 10
The United Way in Marion County, an affiliate of Harvey County United Way, will have its 2005 Campaign Kick Off Aug. 10 at the Marion County Fair.
UW will hand out 216 numbered ping pong balls during the parade. Immediately following the parade, participants must bring their ping pong balls to the Big Brothers Big Sisters booth at the fairgrounds to be redeemed for prizes that have been donated by local businesses.
The United Way Board will be at the booth to answer any questions that citizens may have about UW in Marion County and its efforts to support the needs of non-profit organizations in the county.
Recipients of UW funding in the past two years have included Big Brothers Big Sisters, Communities in Schools, Main Street Ministries, Boy and Girl Scouts, United Health Ministries, American Red Cross and United Cerebral Palsy.
Saturday Night Life
at fairgrounds Aug. 6
A contemporary worship experience, Saturday Night Life, will be held at 8 p.m. Aug. 6 in the pavilion of Marion County Fairgrounds.
The evening will include worship through music, a short meditation and fellowship with neighbors and strangers alike.

Holy Transfiguration services Aug. 5-7
The annual Feast of Transfiguration and Holy Transfiguration services will be held Aug. 5-7 at Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Christian Church, 116 N. Washington, Hillsboro.
Services begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, with Great Vespers, followed by refreshments.
The Feast Day service begins with orthos at 9 a.m., liturgy at 10 a.m. and a fellowship following.
Olde Towne meeting
with Sen. Huelskamp
A meeting with Kansas Sen. Tim Huelskamp is set for 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at Olde Towne Restaurant in Hillsboro.
Dinner and dessert will be available from the menu.
Huelskamp has authored the Kansas Marriage Amendment, worked to protect traditional family values, family farms and independent businesses, and led the charge for sound fiscal policy.

The Farmerettes will meet at 8:10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, in the First Mennonite Church parking lot.
