Dwight Bowers will be speaking at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday, July 24, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion.
Bowers, a noted minister and leader, also is preaching at the 2005 Kansas Christian Ashram July 20-23 at Central Christian College in McPherson.
Bowers has served as senior pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan, Ohio, for eight years and works as a consultant with five other United Methodist congregations in his district.
Natural resources
day camp Aug. 6
The second annual Natural Resources Day Camp for youth ages 10 to 14 will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Camp Wood YMCA near Elmdale.
Hosted by Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Pass It On Program and the Natural Resource Officers, the day's activities will include archery, fishing, wildlife and wildlife habitat identification, and canoeing on Cottonwood River.
A meal will be provided.

"Real" D.W. to speak at Peabody library
The "real" D.W. Reed will give a presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, in the Ann Potter Room of the Peabody Township Library.
D.W. Reed is the precocious sister to Arthur Reed, a young aardvark character who encounters various childhood dilemmas in the "Arthur Adventure Series" by Marc Brown.
The real D.W. is Marc Brown's real-life sister and the inspiration for the fictional D.W. character.
The event is free and recommended for ages 6 and up.
Janet Herzet certified
as massage therapist
Massage therapist Janet Herzet, of St. Luke Integrated Health Care Clinic in Marion, has passed the national certification exam for therapeutic massage and bodywork.
Her status as a nationally certified massage therapist is the highest credential available for massage therapy.
Herzet graduated from the Butler County Community College massage therapy program in May and has worked at the Marion clinic since January 2002.
USD 398 to honor Cook for 29 years
Vickie Cook, retiring clerk for United School District 398, will be honored with a casual come-and-go reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 26 at the USD 398 Central Office, 506 Elm, Peabody.
Cook also was honored at a retirement supper July 13 at the home of Arleta Koehn in Burns.
The USD 398 board of education hosted the supper to thank Cook for her 29 years of service.
Camps to kick off
dance school year
Vicky's School of Dance in Hillsboro announces its 2005-06 theme as "Dancin' in the USA."
Students and audience members will enjoy a mix of all-American songs from various genres and decades. Boys will perform to sports-themed music complete with athletic props.
This year's summer dance camps, planned for Aug. 1-5 and Aug. 8-12, are open to anyone, not just dance school members.
Participants in the "Oceans of Fun" camp will perform Aug. 13 at the Marion County Fair.
New at the dance school this year will be the inclusion of a Christmas show and the introduction of liturgical ballet, a visual expression of hymns, prayers, songs and scripture.
Owner and head instructor Vicky Mohn has been teaching dance for 22 years. The school includes preschool through college-age students, both female and male.
Registration for the 2005-06 school year is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Vicky's School of Dance, 107 W. Grand. If unable to attend registration or for more information, contact Mohn at 947-3413.
Cooleys to perform July 24 in Peabody
Haskell and JoLee Cooley will present a gospel music program, "A Time For Refreshing," at 6 p.m. July 24 at Peabody Christian Church.
Nominated as best gospel musician by the Gospel Music Association and the Singing News Fan Awards, Haskell has been pianist for the Weatherfords and the Cathedrals. Several albums on which he is pianist have been nominated for Grammy Awards by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
JoLee plays bass guitar and joins Haskell on vocals. Both have received numerous awards from the Great Plains Gospel Singing Association.
