A new $172,000 Ferrara fire truck for the city fire department was added Monday to the list of considerations for the Marion City Commission.
Mike Weis of Weis Fire and Safety at Salina said "sticker shock" is a part of a fire truck purchase with a base price of $127,000 for the basic truck-before he and Fire Chief Mike Regnier began adding equipment that would be needed.
Weis remembered that in 1978 he sold a fire truck completely outfitted for about $30,000, "a price that won't even buy the chassis now."
The International truck would be purchased within county at Williams Service in Florence.
Weiss said added features would include a deck gun to spray structures adjacent to a fire, a Class A foam system that adds fire-smothering ability to water, a suction system on the right side of the truck and a 5,000-watt generator.
Mayor Martin Tice said the city will need to talk to its bankers.
City Manager David Mayfield reissued a warning to owners of stocked aquariums that addition of ammonia treatment this week to the city water system could kill fish if they are not protected.
Police Lieutenant Dean Keyes thanked commissioners for allowing him to attend and graduate from the Kansas Police Administrators Seminar at the Kansas Law Enforcement Center this month.
The commissioners approved the June financial statement, the June investment and collateral report, and the second quarter financial statement.
