The public is invited to a farewell planned for Becky Carlson, former Hillsboro High School basketball coach and Hillsboro Elementary School physical education teacher.
The event will be from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, July 17, at the Hillsboro Middle School commons.
Carlson began her teaching and coaching career in the Hillsboro school system in 1983-84. The following year, she was named head coach for HHS girls basketball.
Carlson went on to compile a 333-149 record over the next 21 seasons, including 10 trips to the state tournament and back-to-back state titles in 1995 and 1996.
Last month, she announced her resignation to accept a teaching and coaching position in the Iola school system.
Goessel library plans
Book sale July 9
The Goessel Public Library will hold a book sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 9, in the community room of the Goessel Civic Center.
Hundreds of new hardcover and paperback books will be for sale, including fiction, nonfiction, specialized computer books and children's books.
Proceeds will benefit the Goessel Public Library programs.
Gospel music July 10 at Canton UMC
A gospel music benefit will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at Canton United Methodist Church.
The concert will feature music by the Good News Trio, the Black Kettle Band, the Second Generation and the Wedels.
Refreshments will be served by the Methodist church ladies. Proceeds will benefit the church's piano fund.
Hillsboro blood drive
at HUMC July 11
An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, July 11, at Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 E. D Street.
All blood types are needed, especially types O-positive and O-negative. Every day, 500 blood donors are needed to supply blood for hospital patients in Kansas and northern Oklahoma.
A free T-shirt will be given to each blood donor.

Carol Wituk certified
as massage therapist
Massage therapist Carol Wituk, of St. Luke Integrated Health Care Clinic in Marion, has passed the national certification exam for therapeutic massage and bodywork.
Her status as a nationally certified massage therapist is the highest credential available for massage therapy.
Wituk graduated from the Butler County Community College massage therapy program in May and has worked at the Marion clinic since January 2002.
Tippin awarded
Walton scholarship
Matthew Tippin, son of Dick and Norma Tippin of rural Hillsboro, is the recipient of a Sam Walton Community Scholarship.
Tippin is a 2005 graduate of Elyria Christian School in McPherson. He will attend Kansas State University and plans to major in biology.
Farmerettes to meet
July 11 in Newton
The Farmerettes will meet at 1:15 p.m., Monday, July 11, in the First Mennonite Church parking lot to carpool to Elizabeth's Unruh's home in Newton.
Roll call will be "Show and Tell."
Christian Endeavor at Ebenfeld July 10
A Christian Endeavor program will be given by the Hillsboro, Parkview and Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren churches at 7 p.m. July 10 at the Ebenfeld Church, 1498 Kanza Road.
