An Independence Day celebration will be held starting at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at the Aulne United Methodist Church in Marion.
Homemade ice cream and desserts will be served at 8 p.m., followed by a fireworks show at dark. Entertainment will be provided by the band Anything Goes.
Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to watch the show.
The church is located at 1415 Pawnee Road.
Funk earns honors
at Cowley County
Jessica M. Funk of Hillsboro was listed on the Dean's Honor Roll at Cowley County Community College for the 2005 spring semester.
Students listed on the Dean's Honor Roll had a cumulative grade point average between 3.5 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale and competed a minimum of 12 credit hours.
Saturday Night Life
at fairgrounds July 2
A contemporary worship experience, Saturday Night Life, will be held at 8 p.m. July 2 in the pavilion of Marion County Fairgrounds.
The evening will include worship through music, a short meditation and fellowship with neighbors and strangers alike.

Hanschu named
All American agent
Jayson Hanschu of Hillsboro has been named an All American Agent by American Family Insurance Group.
He joins a select group of agents who have distinguished themselves through outstanding sales of American Family insurance products.

Hesston College honors area students
Five Hesston College students from the Marion County area were named to the Dean's List or Honor Roll for the 2005 spring semester.
Named to the Dean's List for a grade point average of 3.9 to 4.0 were Sonja Hefley of Marion and Daniel Schmidt of Lehigh. Named to the Honor Roll for a GPA of 3.5 to 3.89 were Jeremy Voth and Karis Jost, both of Hillsboro, and Melinda Stucky of Goessel.
Veterans' rep to be
in Marion July 5, 19
Richard Haywood, veteran's service representative for the Kansas Commission on Veterans' Affairs, is scheduled to be in Marion from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 5 and Tuesday, July 19 at the health department.
Any veterans, their dependents or survivors who have received an Eligibility Verification Report form, or any inquiry from the Department of Veterans' Affairs, should contact Haywood for assistance.

Smith appointed Valley UMC pastor
Phil Smith has been appointed the new pastor at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion.
Smith has a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Kansas and a master's in physical therapy from Wichita State University. A local pastor for two years and a lay speaker for three years before that, Smith has been studying for a year and a half at St. Paul's School of Theology in Kansas City.
His wife, Sharon, works in the school system as a kindergarten aide. Their older daughter, Allison, will be a junior at Emporia State University and younger daughter Alexa, 8, will be in third grade.
