Waste collection in Tampa June 30

The Marion County household hazardous waste mobile collection unit will be in Tampa from 9 a.m. to noon June 30.

The unit will be stationed at the county lot at the north end of the town. Pressurized fuel containers such as propane bottles will not be accepted, and all waste dropped off must be in labeled containers.

Car wash to fund UMYF mission trip

The Hillsboro United Methodist Church Youth Group will host a car wash from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25, in the church parking lot.

The event is to raise funds for the group's upcoming mission trip.

Regional solid waste board mtg June 22

The Central Kansas Regional Solid Waste Authority Board will meet at 7 p.m. June 22 at the McPherson Area Solid Waste Utility, 1431 17th Ave.

Board members representing Harvey, Marion and McPherson counties will attend.

The agenda includes claims and invoices, the Waste Recycling and Reduction Committee report and the manager's report.

The meeting is open to the public.

Programs for youth at Marion library

The Marion City Library invites youth who have completed grades K-12 to explore "Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds" through programs, books and activities July 1 to July 29.

Prizes will be awarded for completion of the summer reading program. Youth may come to the library to sign up for the program at any time.

"Fun in the Sun" storytimes with games and crafts will be held from children ages 3 to 6 each Friday in July from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Registration is required due to limited space. Call the library at 620-382-2442 to register.

Concert to benefit Haitian orphanage

Goessel Mennonite Church will host an outdoor concert to benefit the Haiti Lifeline Orphanage at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, June 26.

The program will include music and drama by Tabor College's student-led ministry team, i268, and bluegrass gospel music by the Brothers & Sisters of Goessel.

The Haiti Lifeline Orphanage is home to about 65 orphans. Money raised by a freewill offering at the concert will help pay for supplies, including washers, dryers and computers, and operating expenses at the orphanage.

Ebenfeld CE to host Heart for Him June 26

Heart for Him, a men's group from Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church in Newton, will give a Christian Endeavor program at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 26 at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church in rural Hillsboro.

The public is invited to attend.

Priests to co-pastor last services June 26

Bob and Judy Priest will co-pastor their last Sunday services at Florence and Aulne United Methodist churches June 26.

Special worship is planned, featuring the pastors' favorite hymns.

Pastor Bob will give a sermon titled "Are You Living on the Menu or the Meat?"

The Aulne service is at 9:10 a.m. each Sunday, followed by the Florence service at 11 a.m.

The two church congregations will gather at noon at Florence UMC for a carry-in farewell dinner to the Priests.

Cookout planned

for Chat and Dine

The July Chat and Dine at the Marion County Lake is a cookout at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at the East Shelter House.

The hosts request that families attending bring a salad or dessert, table service and lawn chairs. Dress is casual.

Chefs Marion and Delmar will grill brats, hamburgers and cheeseburgers with all the fixings. Iced tea and water will be served.

Hosting the event are Nadine and Delmar Iseli, Rachel and Marion Toland, Sharon Williams and Creighton Smith.

Ft. Hays workshops free for teachers

The Fort Hays State University Center for Economic Education is offering several Economic Education Workshops for K-12 teachers in July at the Fort Hays State University campus.

The workshops will count for 1-3 hours of graduate credit. Free curriculum materials and scholarships for the workshops are available on a first-come basis.

Prairie Wildflower Tour set for June 27

The annual Native Prairie Wildflower Tour will be held at 7 p.m. June 27 on the south side of Maxwell Game Preserve.

Susan Reimer will host the tour, Brad Guhr from Dyck Arboretum in Hesston will be identification guide, and extension agent Dale Ladd will discuss management practices for native grasslands.

A new adult summer reading program will be held at Marion City Library during the month of July.

For every book read or listened to, participants can place their name and the book title into a drawing for a weekly prize.

at Canton library

Canton Township Library will host a summer reading program themed "Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds" Fridays in July.

Children ages 3 to 6 will meet from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and children ages 7 to 10 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for stories, prizes, games and puppetry.

No registration is required.
