T he Hillsboro business scene will witness one more welcomed improvement when construction begins on Hillsboro Community Medical Center's new entrance and partial facility renovation. Representatives from the HCMC board and staff organized a groundbreaking ceremony for the $500,000-plus project on Monday morning.
The services HCMC has provided the Hillsboro area have been, and continue to be, invaluable for the present and future well-being of the community. While the care inside the building has always been first-rate, the outward appearance of the 50-year-old structure hasn't reflected it.
That should change with this project. For the first time, HCMC will have a distinctive entrance-one that even first-time visitors can easily identify. It also will give Main Street an attractive conclusion at its south end.
Just as important, the entire facility will be in full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act-an overdue upgrade for an institution that proclaims to be a leader in local health care.
Congratulations to the HCMC board and staff for pursuing and completing the tax-credit funding initiative that made this great addition possible. Your work is a great boost not only for your institution, but for our entire community. -DR
