Marion FFA offers Ag Awareness for Marion, Hillsboro students PDF Print E-mail

The Marion/Florence FFA Chapter sponsored its sixth annual "Ag Awareness Day" Thursday at the Marion football stadium.

About 100 third-graders from Marion and Hillsboro elementary schools participated in the event.

The day was comprised of different presentations about farming practices, including agricultural equipment, safety and animal agriculture.

FFA members making presentations included: Tacy Taylor and Austin Percell (sheep); Trent Radtke and Preston Williams (hay balers); Chase Williams (tillage equipment); Hank Collett and Riley Ross (poultry); Zach Thompson and Alycia Pontious (combines); Adam Depler and Braden Suffield (tractors

ower-takeoff safety); Leann Thomas and Kevin Billbe (horses); Brady May, Chris Brewer, and Casey Keazer (all-terrain-vehicle safety); Bryce Suffield, Charlie Holub and John Goering (swine); John Whitwell and Shawn Britton (dairy dattle) and Danielle Cope (beef cattle).

The FFA chapter also organized a petting zoo for the students as one of the rotations.

Additional presentations were made by Dave Lancaster from Cooperative Grain & Supply (agricultural chemicals), Dale Ehlers and Doug Svitak with the Natural Resources Conservation Services (soil erosion) and Jessica Laurin (veterinary medicine).

Assisting the FFA chapter with the event were NRCS, Laurin, CG&S, Deer Trail, Straub International, Rock-Home Holsteins and Sarah Regier, who made presentations or supplied animals or equipment for the presentations.
