Storm was an awesome display
I've always enjoyed a good thunderstorm, with all of the lightning and thunder that go with it. We were even treated to a horizon-to-horizon double rainbow this time. If I thought I was a great photographer, I would have taken some photos. But I was content to watch the whole thing go by.
The display on Sunday night was awesome, with the massive clouds and then the sun breaking through just after the rain. What a sight to behold.

Now that the weather is warmer and we get out walking more, I saw more spirea around town lately than I had ever noticed before. Maybe we could be the spirea capital of Kansas.
Since I wasn't sure how to spell spirea, I googled it and found out that I do know how to spell it and that it is one of the easiest flowering shrubs to grow-which might explain why there is so much of it.

We received an e-mail from a man who had just purchased a Buller Manufacturing cordwood saw and was wanting to find information about the company and how he might restore the saw to its original state. He wanted to know if we had any information in our files about Buller Manufacturing.
I replied that our paper was founded in 1998, but I knew where he could begin looking. First, I thought of Virgil Litke's book about the company and his grandfather the founder, then the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies, which houses a ton of information about the area, then Prairie Products, which still makes some of the original Buller products. Then I remembered in my early 1960s days printing flyers about those products for Mayor Levi Buller.

Every town has a couple of old guys who can remember or know a lot of stuff about the old days. I got to thinking that I might be becoming one of the new old guys. If one is not from here, then it becomes harder to know some of that stuff.

Two inebriated guys were trying to decide if they were looking at the moon or the sun. Just then another fellow who had imbibed more than his share walked by and was asked by the first two if he knew whether it was the sun or the moon. The third guy said he didn't know-he wasn't from around here.

I'm really looking forward to Memorial Day weekend with the Family/Folk Festival and All-School Reunion coming. Now that the reunion is an annual event, I hope we can gain momentum for future years so that eventually everyone will know that the reunion is on Memorial Day weekend.
It will always be 30, 40 or 50 years since graduation for someone, which is a significant milestone and why not get together each year to celebrate?

I discovered a brand-new way to communicate with my first-grader grandson this past weekend. We now do iChat over the Internet. Found out that he had pancakes and baken (sic) for breakfast.
