The Tabor College track teams tuned up for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference meet next week by competing Saturday at the Southwestern College Relays in Winfield.

The strong competition included Fort Hays State University, Doane (Neb.) College, Southern Nazarene, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma Baptist and Rhema Bible College.

"This meet was a good one to prepare us for the KCAC meet this next week," Tabor coach Dave Kroeker said. "We are peaking at the right time and next week should be a lot of fun."

For the women, the 4x400 relay team of Shelby Miler, Rebekah Lockhart, Aftan Lambert and Ashley Scherrer lowered its school record to 4:09.05.

Scherrer also won the women's high jump at 5-feet, 2-inches.

For the men, Matt Rorabaugh won the high jump with a leap of 6-8, Caleb Stanton won the 200-meter dash in 22.29 seconds, Brian Lightner won the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 56.21 and Trent Voth placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.44.

Kroeker said the improvement in times, distances and heights was a result of excellent work by his coaching staff.

"Ken Christensen has done an outstanding job with our sprinters, Jeff Penner's throwers have steadily improved and Esther Richert has taken over for Suzy Best with the middle distance and distance runners and has done a great job," Kroeker said.

"They deserve a lot of credit for the kind of improvement we have seen throughout this season."

The KCAC meet will be contested at the Tabor College track on Friday and Saturday. Field events begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Running events begin at 5 p.m. both days.

"This meet is where we get to measure both of our teams against the best in the conference," Kroeker said. "It's the one meet of the year that I ask everyone to really focus on team results more than their individual efforts.

"We need to cap off a great season of individual accomplishments with a great team effort next Friday and Saturday."
