The Tabor College softball team split a doubleheader at Ottawa last Saturday, winning 6-3 and losing 12-7.

"We had to play without Holly Lindsay and Julie Wall because of a scheduling conflict," coach Tina King said. "But we hit really well this weekend."

In the opener, Tabor scored a run in the second inning and two in the third and led 3-2 after three innings.

The Bluejays added a run in the sixth inning when Porsche Davis led off with a single and scored on a two-out single by Jacqueline Schnell.

Tabor added two runs in the seventh inning when April Funk and Johannah Love both scored.

Love picked up the win, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out two batters.

With Lindsay gone, Love was forced to pitch the second game, too, but came up short, allowing 12 runs on 13 hits.

"Jo had to pitch both games and did really well for having to go back-to-back," King said. "But they eventually got their timing down and got the hang of what she was going to throw and that makes it tough."

The Bluejays banged out eight hits, including two each by Loewen and Tamara McCarren.

Sara Thiessen drove in two runs while Funk and McCarren each drove in one run.

With the split, Tabor moved to 3-11 in conference play and 7-19 overall.

The Bluejays are battling for the eighth and final spot in the KCAC post-season tournament at Lindsborg on May 5 and 6.

"Deep down I hope we're able to get into that tournament," King said. "We played the top teams the closest of anybody in the conference, so it would be fun to see what we could do.

"We're a good team, so if we don't make it, it would just kill us. But if we do make it, we have the talent to make a run at the championship."

Bethany-Tabor lost both ends of a double header at Bethany last week, 9-0 and 3-0.

"At times we played well, but it's still the same old thing-we just made too many errors when we got close," coach Tina King said. "We didn't bat very well in either game."

In the opener, pitcher Holly Lindsay allowed 11 hits and three earned runs as the Bluejays committed six errors.

The Bluejays managed only three hits in the contest, one each by Erin Loewen, Jacqueline Schnell and April Funk.

In the second game, Johannah Love allowed only seven hits and one earned run as Tabor committed three additional errors.

Tabor was once again limited to three hits-two by Loewen and one by Porsche Davis.

With the losses, Tabor fell to 2-10 in KCAC play and 6-18 overall.

Coming-The Bluejays finish the regular season portion of their schedule Thursday with games at home against Southwestern. Action begins at the Sports Complex at 5 p.m. It will be "Senior Recognition Night" for Tabor.

Friday, the Bluejays travel to Kansas City to play Rockhurst.
