The Tabor College men placed first and the women second at the ACCK Championships track meet at Bethany College on Saturday.

The Bluejay men scored 194 points out-distance second-place Bethel College (132) while the Tabor women (183) were edged by Bethany (190).

"For our athletes we trained through this meet, running more events than we would normally run and we tried some different combinations on relay teams as well," coach Dave Kroeker said. "All in all it was a great day for both teams.

"We are making steady improvements in almost all areas at just the right time of the season."

Notable individual men's performances included: Matt Rorabaugh, first in high jump at 6-feet, 8-inches; Caleb Stanton, first in the 400 meters (50.11) and second in the 200 (22.22); Jeff Anenson, second in the 800 (2:03.33); Matt Lynam, second in the 10,000 (37.27.46); Trent Voth, first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.46); Brian Lightner, first in the 400-meter hurdles (56.66), second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.53) and second in the long jump (21-23/4); Caleb Marsh, first in pole vault (14-3); and Garrett Bryant, first in triple jump (42-83/4).

The men's 4x400 relay team of Rorabaugh, Stanton, Anenson and Marsh also won.

For the women, Jennifer Palmgren tied the school pole vault record (8-6) and placed second in the 100 (13.31).

Other top finishes included: Shelby Miller, second in the 400 (61.43); Heidi Schmidt, first in the 800 (2:30.71) and second in the 1,500 (5:15.83); Amber Wiens, second in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase (13:15.41); Ashley Scherrer, first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.49) and second in the triple jump (35-53/4); and Rachel Kostner, first in the hammer throw (100-1).

The 4x400 team of Miller, Aftan Lambert, Rebekah Lockhart and Scherrer won in a school-record time of 4:14.43.

Palmgren, Christine Van Doren, Carissa Litton and Scherrer combined to win the 4x100 in a time of 52.75.

On Wednesday, Tabor will host its invitational, which will begin at 12:30 p.m.
