Alvin Goerzen, 82

Alvin W. Goerzen, 82, farmer and sheet metal work, died March 19 at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

The memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Tabor Church near Goessel, with pastor Corey Miller officiating. Burial will be at 9:15 a.m. in Tabor Cemetery.

He was born June 17, 1922, to Jake and Sarah Schroeder Goerzen in Goessel. On June 8, 1945, he was married to Martha Friesen, who predeceased him.

He is survived by two sons, Ron and wife Susan of Colorado Springs, Colo., Les and wife Cynthia of rural Goessel; two daughters, Eileen and husband Bruce Schmidt of rural Canton, Beth and husband Wes Regehr of Hesston; brothers Milton and Willis, both of rural Newton; sister Alice Funk of rural Newton; and six grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Bethesda Home.

Margaret Ireland, 77

Margaret Ireland, 77, teacher, nurse's aid and postal worker, died March 20 in Marion.

Visitation is today, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Marion Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion with the Rev. John Goering officiating.

She was born July 9, 1927, to Joseph M. and Ethel Chesterman Taylor in Norwich. In 1948 she married Kenneth Ireland, who predeceased her.

She is survived by two sons, Patrick Ireland of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Ronald Ireland of Missoula, Mont.; one daughter, Marj Louise Johnson of Wichita; one brother, Bud Taylor of Cheney; four sisters, Francis Bowen of Chivington, Colo., Eula May Baumgartner of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jo Gearheart of Wichita and Martha Davidson of Oklahoma; and six grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been established with Marion Ambulance Department, Marion Public Library and Friends University in care of Zeiner Funeral Home.

Betty Miller, 69

Betty I. Miller, 69, died March 17 at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

A memorial service was Monday afternoon at Bethesda Home with the Rev. Mark Wiens officiating. Burial followed at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in Goessel.

She was born Nov. 4, 1935, to Lloyd and Ida Denny King of Leavenworth. In 1968 she married Albert E. Miller, who predeceased her in 2003.

She is survived by four daughters, Paula Flaming of Goessel, Pamela Waltner of Hesston, Donna Walling of Towanda and Diana Cool of Derby; three sons, David Cool of Wichita, Duane Cool of El Dorado and Danny Cool of Towanda; one sister, Delores King of Wichita; four brothers, Donald King of Saint Louis, Mo., Robert McCurdy and Charlie McCurdy, both of Goddard, and Tommy McCurdy of Halstead; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been established with Bethesda Home and Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.

Faye Jean Smith, 83

Faye Jean Smith, 83, died March 16 at Shiloh Manor Nursing Home in Canton.

The graveside service was Saturday afternoon at Canton Township Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Smith presiding.

She was born March 2, 1922, to William C. and Emma K. Linsenmayer Smith of Canton.

She is survived by one brother, Keith C. Smith of Waseca, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established with Shiloh Manor Nursing Home in Canton.
