We hope children and grandchildren of our seniors will take note of this week's lead article on mail moochers. There is a growing danger that a generation that was taught to be generous and trusting is now being victimized by shameless charlatans who put on the sheep's clothing of worthy causes and even Christian ministry in order to devour the financial resources of the unsuspecting.
The danger grows as the mental capacities of our loved ones cloud with advancing age. It is important for family members to be observant, ask questions and, if the evidence indicates potential abuse, to review the checkbook from time to time.
It's too bad generosity and trust have become reasons for concern rather than adulation. But that's the world we live in and wise people will take the warning to heart. -DR
