The Bluejays were in action Monday afternoon hosting Presentation College of Aberdeen, S.D., and came away with a pair of wins by scores of 11-2 and 9-0.
In the opener, Tristan Simmons picked up his first win of the year as Kevin Peterson homered and Jeremy Ball wrapped out a double.
In the second game, Andy Womack picked up the win to improve to 4-2 for the season.
Casey Cooper provided the big hit, a 3-run home run, and Chance Miles and Nick Green both doubled to lead the Tabor offense.
"Overall the day went pretty well," head coach John Sparks said. "We made the routine plays we needed to make and we hit well for as cold as it was this afternoon."
Concordia University-Tabor split a pair of games at home against Concordia College on Saturday afternoon.
Tabor dropped the first game 7-4 but took the second one 7-1.
Starter and loser Scott Wolf (0-2) got off to a rocky start in the opener but settled down to throw a complete-game seven-hitter.
Wolf was victimized by a Bluejay error in allowing six first-inning runs.
"Baseball usually doesn't come down to one play, but we had a chance to turn a double play and get out of the first inning without allowing any runs-but we made an error and it cost us," coach John Sparks said.
"It's tough to come back after giving up six in the first, but I was really proud of Scott. He showed a lot of character and settled down and did a really nice job after the first inning."
Tabor battled back in the second inning when Kevin Peterson belted a two-run home run over the right-field fence to cut the lead to 6-2 and to 6-3 after two innings.
Tabor pulled to within 6-4 in the fourth when Chance Miles doubled off the center-field fence and Peterson tripled. But Tabor couldn't muster any more offense and lost 7-4.
In the second game, Tabor got a great performance on the hill from Tyler McKim (1-2) who picked up the win with 41/3 innings of work, allowing just one run.
Josh Letourneau pitched 12/3 innings of relief and Layne Frick came on for the save as Tabor won the game 7-1.
"We played much better in this game," Sparks said. "We made routine plays, moved runners around and got key hits and a good pitching performance. When you put all those things together, we're a tough team to beat."
Nick Green smacked a solo home run, Jeremy Ball went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored, Miles was 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs batted in, Peterson was 1-for-3 with an RBI double and Jake Monhollon was 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
With the split, Tabor's record stand at 8-6.
"We've taken some steps in the last week," Sparks said. "I think the guys are understanding when we make the plays we should, we can be a team that's tough to beat. But they also know we're not good enough to overcome those mistakes and coast to wins."
Mid-America Nazarene-Tabor split a twin-bill with Mid-America Nazarene last Thursday in Olathe. Tabor won the opener 14-5 but dropped the second game 8-3.
In the opener, pitcher Casey Hillman ran his record to 4-0 with five strong innings.
Tabor collected two runs in both the first and second innings and added three in the third.
Hillman gave up single runs in the fourth and fifth innings but left the game leading 11-2.
"We hit the ball really well in the first game, as well as we've hit the ball all year," coach John Sparks said. "That was really the key."
Josh Craig led the Bluejay offense going 3-for-3 with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored while Tyson Bauerle went 2-for-3 with four runs scored and Nick Green belted a 2-run home run and scored two runs. Tabor belted out 12 hits while Mid-America recorded eight.
In the second game, Andy Womack (3-2) got the start and absorbed the 8-3 loss.
"It was one of those strange baseball games where we hit about seven balls right at people and they had a number of seeing-eye singles," Sparks said. "One thing we have to eliminate is giving away free bases.
"We walked or hit four of the runners that scored for them in the game."
Tyson Bauerle led the offense with a double and two runs scored in three at-bats while Kevin Peterson, Nick Green, Jake Monhollon and Casey Cooper all singled to account for Tabor's five hits.
