At least in Hillsboro, the popularity of high school wrestling pales in comparison to basketball during the winter season, but that doesn't diminish the accomplishments of the coaches and athletes who participate in the sport.
Congratulations to Ric Johnson and Matt Brown of Hillsboro High School and Adam Depler of Marion High School for competing in the Class 3-2-1A wrestling tournament in Hays this weekend. True fans of high school wrestling in Kansas know the competition is extremely tough there.
Depler won the sixth-place medal-only the second medal in MHS history. Johnson finished 1-2 and Brown 0-2 against challenging competition.
