HES to present 'Go Fish' musical Feb. 24

The first- and second-grade classes at Hillsboro Elementary School will present the musical "Go Fish" at the Hillsboro High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24.

The public is invited to attend the event, which will be directed by Shirley Balzter, HES music teacher.

March to feature music in school

Several musical events at Peabody-Burns schools have been scheduled to celebrate "Music: The Heart of Education"

March marks the 31st annual celebration of "Music in our Schools Month," which is sponsored by the Music Educators National Conference.

Mark the following dates on the calendar:

-- Wednesday, March 2 - Peabody Elementary School fifth and sixth grade bands at 2 p.m. in the PES Gymnasium.

-- Tuesday, March 8 - JH Heart of America League Music Festival at Berean Academy. Performance times to be announced.

-- Thursday, March 10 - Peabody-Burns Junior High solo and ensemble recital at 7 p.m. in PBJH/PBHS band room.

-- Saturday, March 12 - Peabody-Burns High School "Voices" dinner theater at 7 p.m. in PES multi-purpose room.

-- Tuesday, March 15 - Peabody-Burns Junior/Senior High instrumental department concert at 7 p.m. in Brown Building Concert Hall.

-- Thursday, March 17 - USD 398 faculty-staff recital at 7 p.m. at Peabody United Methodist Church.

-- Thursday, March 31 - Peabody-Burns HS band to perform with the Friends University wind ensemble at 7:30 p.m. at Alexander Auditorium at Friends University in Wichita. A small fee will be required for admission.

Speaker to address

evolution issue

Greg Davidson of Marion will address the topic "Evolution in the Science Curriculum" at a public meeting planned for 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Marion Catholic Activity Center, 415 N. Cedar, Marion.

The subtitle of his presentation is: "Getting the facts straight about evolution, intelligent design and God."

The issues Davidson will address are being debated by the state board of education.
