9th ranked Tabor women win 74-66, men victorious 78-44
The Tabor Bluejays traveled to Lindsborg Saturday night and came away with two victories.
The Tabor women, ranked 9th this week in the NAIA Div. II poll, sprinted to a 38-27 halftime lead and followed that by scoring the first 12 points of the second half to lead 50-27.
Tabor then withstood a late Bethany rally that cut the lead to 67-60 with just over three minutes to play before holding on and coming away with the 78-66 victory.
Erica Hemmert led all scorers with 24 points while Stacie Herman added 19 and Donya Anderson had 11.
The Bluejays connected on 56.7 percent (17 of 30) of their first half shots and 53.7 percent (29 of 54) for the game while holding Bethany to just 34.3 percent (23 of 67) for the contest.
With their 17th straight win, Tabor improves to 15-1 in KCAC play and 22-4 overall.
The Tabor men looked to avenge an earlier season loss in Hillsboro to the Swedes, 69-63, and did so in a huge way with a 78-44 thrashing of Bethany.
Tabor led just 14-11 with 8:13 to play in the half, but finished the final eight minutes outscoring Bethany 18-8 to take a 32-19 halftime lead.
Things went from bad to worse for the Swedes in the final 20 minutes as Tabor's defense totally snuffed any comeback chances for Bethany.
Leading 45-32, Tabor reeled off 11 straight points to go on top 56-32 and essentially take away any doubt of the outcome.
The Bluejays final lead of 34 points, 78-44 was their largest lead of the game.
Tabor had seven men score at least eight points in the game, led by Martin de Boer with 13, Jared Reese 12 and Andy Brubacher 10.
The Tabor defense limited Bethany to just 26 percent shooting (13 of 50) for the contest while Tabor was 24 of 52 (46.2 percent) for the game.
The Bluejays also forced 22 Bethany turnovers which they converted to 20 points.
With their 8th straight win, Tabor improves to 18-8 overall and 12-4 in KCAC play.
Tabor returns home Thursday night to host the Sterling Warriors.
If the Tabor women win, they'll clinch the outright KCAC title while a victory by the Tabor men will assure them of at least a share of the conference championship.
Game time for the women is 6:00 p.m.
