11th ranked women win 55-50, men victorious 60-57
The 11th ranked Tabor College women took over sole possession of first place in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference race Thursday night with a hard fought 55-50 over the 18th ranked Friends Falcons.
Tabor fell behind 14-2 early in the contest before mounting a comeback that took them to a 25-24 lead at halftime.
Tabor built a lead of 43-35 midway through the second half before Friends tied the game at 47 with just over three minutes to play.
But an Erica Hemmert 3-point basket and a driving lay up by Stacie Herman staked Tabor to a five point lead and the Falcons never recovered.
Hemmert led Tabor with 14 points while Herman and Erica Dechant both added 12 as Tabor won its 12 straight game.
With the win, Tabor overtakes the Falcons for first place in the KCAC with a 10-1 conference mark while moving to 17-4 overall.
Friends falls to 9-2 and 17-4.
The Tabor men trailed Friends by eight points in the first half before rallying to get within a single point at 24-23 by halftime.
In the second half the Bluejays built a lead of as many as 11 points at 42-31 before hanging on for a 60-57 victory.
Brad Gattis, last week's KCAC player-of-the-week led Tabor with 17 points and Martin de Boer added 10.
With the victory, Tabor improves to 7-4 in KCAC play and 13-8 overall while the Falcons fall to 5-6 in conference play and 9-11 overall.
