After a slick trip, family is here Our kids and grandkids from Atlanta finally made it here at 10 p.m. Christmas Eve. That would be eight hours later than they expected to arrive.

They knew about the winter storms moving through Texas and into the Ohio River valley on Thursday, but checked with weather.com and the driving section showed the condition of the interstates to be green, which meant clear.

So much for useful information about the weather. By Nashville, the roads had turned to 2 inches of bumpy ice. After a short night in Memphis, they fought ice all the way to western Arkansas before the roads cleared.

Thankfully, they made it here without incident. We picked up son Dan from the airport on Christmas, so it was a perfect Christmas in every way.

I asked Alex if he wanted to go along to the airport on Saturday. He said, "I don't think I want to ride in the car today."

Shivering actually warms you up-at least that is what I read not long ago. It is the body's way of making the muscles move, which in turn creates body heat.

--

More than once I have been caught doing something I am not supposed to do. I finally caught Nancy doing something she wasn't supposed to do. It was washing the bathroom rugs when the tag clearly stated, "Do not wash."

Sure made them fluffy.

--

It took until now for me to figure out why wives/women take so long to get ready for bed. They just need someone to warm up the bed first.

--

We were at Parkside Homes visiting my mom on Christmas afternoon when the boys became restless. I thought I could kill two birds with one stone by taking them for a walk back to town.

We went about a block when Louie decided to take off his coat. A block later, he took his arms out of the sleeves on his shirt. By the time we hit Ash Street he had taken off his shirt.

I tried to get him to put it back on lest people driving by would think I was irresponsible. Try making a 4-year-old put on his shirt when he doesn't want to.

--

Grandma took a turn at taking the boys to the grocery store. They don't get Oreo cereal at home, but they do in Hillsboro. They said it was even better than they thought it would be.

--

Here is something to try. Gather your kids and grandkids and take a power walk at the Tabor track. We covered two miles in 36 minutes.

--

We have been publishing our newspaper for more than six years, but I am astounded by how many people still don't know that we print on Tuesday for delivery on Wednesday-which makes our deadlines Monday.

It would be virtually impossible to have a Tuesday deadline, print on Wednesday and have the post office deliver it the same day, which would be Wednesday.

We'd do it if we could.
