Fund established for

house-fire victims

A fund has been established at Cottonwood Valley Bank in Florence to assist members of a local family, who lost their home to fire earlier this month.

The fund is in the name of Brian and Teresa Clay, whose house was destroyed in a Dec. 11 blaze.

Brian has served the Florence community as an emergency medical technician for 26 years, and Teresa has been a first-responder.

The Clay household includes seven people-three adults and four children.

Donations accepted

for heart transplant

An account has been established at Central National Bank for donations to Joyce (Funk) Ediger, 55, to help cover expenses related to a heart transplant.

Funk is the daughter of Leona Funk and the late Allen Funk. Her siblings include brothers Lester, Larry, Delbert and Ron Funk and sister Jeanette Schaefer.

A resident of Hillsboro, she has three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Farewell open house

for Arlen Goertzen

A farewell open house for Arlen Goertzen is planned for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Goessel Civic Center, 101 S. Cedar.

The open house will honor Goertzen for more than 15 years of service to the city of Goessel.

The public is invited.

Heyen places second

at piano auditions

Benjamin Heyen, freshman at Hillsboro High School, won second place in the Intermediate Division of the Anderson Piano Concerto Auditions on Dec. 18 in Hutchinson.

He is the son of Bruce and Janell Heyen of Hillsboro.

He was accompanied on a second piano played by his father and is a student of Beverly Richards.

Holiday hours set for Kauffman Museum

The Kauffman Museum of North Newton announces holiday hours.

The museum will be open for shoppers and visitors until 4:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve; closed on Dec. 25, Christmas Day; open for normal hours, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 26; and open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 27.

The current special exhibition is "Reeds & Wool: Patterend Screens of Central Asia," featuring unique twined screens made by Kyrgyz women for their traditional yurt homes.

Admission to the museum is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children ages 6 to 16.

Florence library staff

announces hours

The staff of the Florence Library announces new hours.

The library will be open from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday; 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday; 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday; and 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday. The library will be closed Sunday, Monday and Thursday.

Regular fines are five cents a day, but the library has issued a recess from fines during the Christmas holidays. All overdue items may be returned to the library without penalty through the end of December.
