Robert A. Arnold, 83

Robert A. Arnold, 83, former general manager of Tip Top Credit Union and president of Hillsboro State Bank, died Dec. 7 in Hillsboro.

The funeral was Dec. 10 at Hillsboro United Methodist Church with pastor Laney Kuhn officiating. Burial was at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.

He was born March, 27, 1921, to Orval and Elsie (McCullough) Arnold in Latham. On Sept. 18, 1943, he was married to Doris Jane Klassen, who survives of Hillsboro.

He is also survived by two sons, Larry G. Arnold and wife Sally of Castle Rock, Colo., and Robert J. Arnold and wife Marge of McPherson; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Hillsboro United Methodist Church.

Marvin D. Koehn, 65

Marvin D. Koehn, 65, interior decorator, died Dec. 9 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

The funeral was Dec. 13 at Eden Mennonite Church in Burns. Burial followed at Eden Mennonite Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 7, 1939, to William J. and Leona (Dirks) Koehn in Burns. On Dec. 16, 1962, he was married to Bertha Smith, who survives.

He is also survived by his father of Burns; three daughters, Paula Toews and husband Ronald and Bonnie Ensz and husband Glen, all of Hillsboro, and Loretta Koehn of the home; three brothers, Earl Dean Koehn and wife Louise and William Koehn Jr. and wife Donna, all of Burns, and David Koehn and wife Lavada of Fairview, Okla.; and one sister, Verna Becker and husband Galen of Burns.

Memorials in his memory may be given to the family in care of Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.

Melvin Schmidt, 79

Melvin E. Schmidt, 79, retired city-service employee, died Dec. 6 at the Hospice Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla.

The burial service was Dec. 11 at Fairview Cemetery in Greensburg.

He was born Dec. 7, 1924, to Louis and Lodie (Wadel) Schmidt in Kiowa County. On Feb. 8, 1951, he was married to Neva Unruh, who passed away in 1981. In Oct., 1983, he was married to Dorothy Koehn, who died in 2001. On May 8, 2002, he was married to Wanda Aker, who survives of Lamont, Fla.

He is also survived by one son, James Schmidt and wife Joanna of Ottawa; four brothers, Vernon Schmidt and wife Evelyn of Elida, Ohio, Jim Schmidt and wife Gladys of Hillsboro, Chester Schmidt and wife Bernie of Tomball, Texas, and Irvin Schmidt and wife Norma of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Lena Good and husband Lowell of Hesston and Geneva Spicer of Greensburg; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Schmidt and Mabel Schmidt, both of Greensburg; and three grandsons.

A memorial has been established with Greensburg Mennonite Church.

Irene Walker, 82

Irene (Kenna) Walker, 82, retired teacher, died Dec. 9, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

The funeral was Dec. 13 at First Baptist Church in Topeka. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.

She was born March 14, 1922, to Edgar W. and Margaret L. (Thompson) Pitzer in Logan, Okla. In 1942, she was married to Ben S. Walker, who predeceased her in 1972.

She is survived by two sons, Gregg Walker and wife Betsy of Hillsboro and Steven Walker with Lori Clune of Fresno, Calif.; two brothers, Emory Pitzer and wife Marjorie of Bartlesville, Okla., and George Pitzer and wife Billie of Pittsburg, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Pitzer of Lawrence; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with KTWU, 1903 Jewell, Topeka, KS 66604; the American Cancer Society, 1315 S.W. Arrowhead Road, Topeka, KS 66604; and Washburn University Educational Scholarship Fund, 1700 S.W. College, Topeka, KS 66621.
