Tabor women victorious 78-59, Bluejay men win 76-62
The Tabor College women scored the games first 16 points Thursday night against the University of Saint Mary and went on for a 78-59 win.
Tabor led 16-0 before Saint Mary scored its first basket with 13:21 to play in the half and the Spires never recovered.
Erica Hemmert broke out of a mini-slump to lead Tabor with 20 points while Donya Anderson added 15 and Stacie Herman chipped in 12 points and five assists.
The Bluejay defense held Saint Mary to just 29 percent from the field while the Tabor offense connected on 44 percent of its shots.
With the win, Tabor improves to 2-1 in KCAC play and 8-4 overall.
The Tabor men broke the goose egg in the win column in conference play with a hard fought 76-62 win over the Spires.
Tabor held a 37-28 halftime lead and stretched the lead to 46-35 before a six minute scoring drought allowed Saint Mary to score 14 straight and take a 49-46 lead over the Bluejays.
Still trailing 51-50 with 6:43 to play,Tabor's Pat Miller connected on two 3-point baskets to springboard Tabor to a 60-51 lead and the Bluejays were in control on the way to the 14 point win.
Miller led the offense with 19 points, followed by Anthony Monson with 13 and Chris Metcalf with 10.
With the win, Tabor improves to 1-2 in KCAC play and evens its record at 5-5 for the season.
