58 years without cranberries
This was my 58th straight year without eating any cranberries at Thanksgiving. I think others are with me on this. My sister even made a centerpiece with floating cranberries and floating candles with me in mind. They're nice to look at...very colorful.

Took a quick trip to Tulsa over the weekend to see brother Mark. Hadn't been down there for about three years, so it was time. He is recovering nicely from his second hip replacement.
His new HDTV setup made his recovery more pleasant. I didn't realize how sharp the picture could be in Hi Def. I cleaned my glasses and it got even better.

I don't think the interstates are as safe as they used to be. People are willing to cut in in a heartbeat, leaving no safety in car lengths just to keep from slowing down. Being able to see the numbers on their speedometer because of being so close behind is not my idea of comfort.

I saw a new way of moving truck trailers down the train tracks these days. I hadn't seen it before, but now they don't put the trailers on a train car. The trailers themselves are the train car; they are mounted on a set of train wheels, front and back. Quite a nice idea and a great way to move freight across the country, I must say.

Someone I know was buying a football jersey for a family member for a Christmas present. I can't say who because I might spill the beans. Anyway, it was a KU football jersey with the number "1."
As the guy was paying for the purchase, the clerk said it was her brother's number. The guy had purchased a John Randle jersey from Randle's sister.

Not that anybody cares to know, but I would like a SpongeBob SquarePants watch for Christmas. I'd like a cordless drill, too, but that would be asking a lot. I'll try to be good for the rest of the year, starting now, just to see what happens.

I thought the Holly Days Christmas Parade was terrific. The day was perfect, as winter parades go. Hats off to Sharon Mueller and others for a very successful event. It shows how focused effort pays big dividends.

My favorite TV commercial these days is the one where the elderly lady takes a family picture with a stapler. It made me laugh until I almost cried.

Minestrone soup has become one of my favorites. As a kid I wouldn't have touched the stuff with a 10-foot pole. It looks like a mess, but tastes great.

As one who cleans the microwave, I watched with interest about a tip I saw on the "Oprah" show, which is now recorded daily at our house. You put a handful of sliced lemons in water and then heat the you-know-what out of it. It makes the microwave smell good and loosens the crud.
