Unruhs to celebrate 60th anniversary

Oliver O. and Frances (Frick) Unruh of Hillsboro will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a come-and-go open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, at 204 S. Washington, Hillsboro. The couple were married Oct. 29, 1944, at First Baptist Church in Durham. After they were married, they lived in Newton, Many, La., and Hillsboro. Oliver was employed at Tip Top Dairy in Hillsboro and the Santa Fe Railroad. Frances was employed at Tip Top Dairy and Prairie View. They are both retired. Hosting the celebration are their children, Bev Elliott of Hillsboro and Sid and Irma Unruh of Newton and their grandchildren. The couple have eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to the celebration, and the couple requests no gifts.

Schrags celebrating 50-year anniversary

John L. and Hulda Schrag are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Oct. 26, 1954, at Tabor Mennonite Church near Goessel. The couple lived in Denver, where John completed his 1-W service, and have also lived in Goodfield and Bloomington, Ill. For the past 20 years, they lived in the Newton/Goessel community. John worked in middle management for most of his career, and Hulda is a retired registered nurse and quilt-shop co-owner. She continues to work part-time at the Newton Medical Center Professional Library. The couple celebrated with their family earlier in the summer at Egg Harbor, Door County, Wis. The plan to celebrate with family and friends at a barbecue at King Memorial Park in Hesston. Their children are Connie Schrag of Overland Park, Oris and Kathy Schrag and daughters Allison and Elizabeth of Newton, James and Mary Beth Schrag and daughters Nicole and Amy of rural Kelliville, Okla., and Steve and Marsha Schrag and children Kelli and Adam of rural Hutchinson.

Smiths mark 65th

with family & friends

Lewis and Anna Smith will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center Long Term Care Unit, Salem Home, in Hillsboro.

Refreshments will be served from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to honor the couple.

They were married Oct. 27, 1939, in Lehigh. Lewis is retired from REA Express Agency, and Anna is retired from KG&E in Wichita.

Their children are Bob and Bonnie Swartzendruber of Plano, Texas, and Georgia Smith of Hutchinson. Grandchildren are Richard and Shery Swartzendruber of Dodd City, Texas, and Rob and LeeAnn Swartzendruber of Plano. The couple also have four great-grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to the celebration.
