Tabor College senior Angie Jost won the women's title Saturday at the Friends Cross Country Meet on the Raft Golf Course in Wichita.
It was Jost's fifth individual championship in her Bluejay career, but her first since her freshman season.
Overall, the Tabor women finished in third place, just two points behind Newman University. Hutchinson Community College captured the title.
Jost completed the 5-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 50 seconds, besting the other 62 runners in the race.
Other Tabor finishers were Heidi Schmidt in fourth (21:16), Amber Wiens eighth (21:41), Tiffany Stevens 35th (23:41), Rebekah Lockhart 44th (25:27) and Jennie Throne 46th (25:39).
Jost, Schmidt and Wiens earned medals by virtue of their top-15 finishes.
"Angie ran a very smart race on a course with continuous gradual hills," coach Karol Hunt said. "Heidi and Amber practiced well this week and it showed in their performances.
"Tiffany and Rebekah are still adjusting to college cross country, but with a little more experience, they will close the gap."
The Bluejay men finished fifth as perennial favorite Southwestern captured first place.
Jeff Annenson was Tabor's top finisher in the 8-kilometer race, placing 20th in 29:15.
Other Bluejay finishers were Anthony Bartlett who finished 33rd (29:56), Kevin Larson 42nd (30:47), Kyle Larson 43rd (30:47), Mike Norris 50th (32:00) and Matt Lynam 51st (32:02).
Last week's top runner, Pete Richert, did not run due to an injury.
"Jeff ran well and his experience is starting to show," Hunt said. "Freshman Anthony Bartlett finished in the No. 2 spot (for Tabor) running his first 8-k race under 30 minutes.
"This race was a positive start for his college career, but after we work on consistency, he'll be much more competitive," she added. "That only comes with more experience."
Overall, Hunt said the day was successful for the Bluejays.
"We ran well today," she said. "Both teams were focused."
Coming- The Bluejays will compete in the McPherson College Invitational at Rolling Acres Golf Course on Saturday. The women will race at 10:30 a.m. and the men at 11:15 a.m.
