Marion County Commission Chairman Bob Hein confirmed Monday that after an hour executive session meeting Feb. 12, Jayne Gottschalk was terminated as head of the elderly department.
Hein said Gottschalk’s pay and benefits will extend into March. She had been with the department seven months with no apparent difficulties, he said.
The action followed apparent conflicts between Gottschalk and Lanelle Hett, transportation director in the department.
Gottschalk had said during the earlier meeting that a commission decision might require her to resolve working with Hett or for both of them to lose their jobs.
Hein said there may be other actions or discussion to follow in this week’s Tuesday meeting, delayed from the regular Monday meeting by Presidents Day.
Joe and Debbie Jury feed cattle and raise crops such as wheat, corn and hay on their family farm near Ingalls. They also harvest electric power from the gusty Kansas wind.
Joe Jury will present “One Answer to the Energy Crisis: Gray County Wind Farm” at the Tabor College 60+ Learning in Retirement Program, at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 25, in the Wohlgemuth Music Education Building on the main campus. The public is encouraged to attend.
The Jurys’ involvement with the Gray County Wind Farm began in early 2000 when Florida Power and Light contacted them about putting wind turbines on their land. Construction was completed in October 2001.
In addition to Jury’s PowerPoint presentation, Tabor’s new president, Jules Glanzer, will be introduced.
Admission is free for semester members; others may pay $3 at the door. For more information contact program director Connie Issac at 620-947-3121 or 947-5964.
