Marion County dodged heavy snowfall and ice this past weekend, but winter’s frequent snows have caused power outages, school and organizational cancellations, headaches for homeowners and more work for city and county road crews.

The Marion County Commission met Monday with extensive executive sessions for personnel between other topics that took them into a lengthy 6.5-hour meeting compared to its average 3-hour meeting.

Baseball boosters apparently got the nod from the Marion City Council Monday to push ahead with plans for new restrooms at the baseball complex after it was learned that Marion Manufac­turing has pledged to donate a metal building to be put up with volunteer labor for the project.

The Marion City Council Monday promised the Marion County Board of Commissioners at the council’s Jan. 28 meeting that it would reply by letter within two weeks on what terms it would offer the county for a little more than seven acres in the southeast corner of Batt Industrial Park for possible construction of a new corrections center.
