Unified School District 410 Board of Education approved the calendar for 2008-09 school year at Monday’s regular meeting.
The vote was 6-1, with board member Dale Klassen casting the dissenting vote.
Classes for students will begin Aug. 13 and end May 22. Spring break, designated for third week in March, corresponds with other districts in the county. The calendar is based on 192 contract days.
The board made its decision after considering five options.
Hillsboro High School choral groups and soloists competed at the Class 3A Regional Solo and Ensemble competition held Saturday, April 12 at Tabor College.
Ensembles receiving a I rating were Spirit ‘n Celebration, Spirit ‘N Celebration Men, Spirit ‘N Celebration Women, Freshman/Sopomore Mixed Ensemble and Sophomore Girls Quartet.
Soloists earning a I rating include Kim Brown, Dylan Delk, Nolan Dirks, Ben Heyen, Lauren Just, Cassie Kroeker, Julia Loewen, Maria Loewen, Kelsey Unruh, David Vogel, Nathan Vogel, Audrey Weinbrenner and Carly Weisbeck.
Those receiving a II rating were the Girls Ensemble and soloists Kelsey Bartel, Evan Just, Caitlin Reimer, Mandi Roble, Heidi Schroeder and Jet Skiles.
All of these students will compete at the state festival on Saturday, April 26 at Southeast of Saline.
After losing her husband to cancer, author Carol Muller met Monroe Funk, who had lost his wife to a brain tumor.
The active retirees met and were married but found few resources to help them make the inevitable adjustments to remarriage in their golden years. So Muller-Funk wrote a book on the subject herself, titled “Golden Love.”
