Centre FFA members traveled April 2 to Great Bend to compete in the South Central District and Barton County Invitational Farm Management and Ag Sales CDEs.
The Ag Sales team finished first with all four team members in the top 10: Nellie Hill, first, Julie Rziha, second, Amy Hajek, fifth, and Kristine Jirak, sixth.
The Farm Management team finished second with team members Kevin Mueller in third, Alfonse Klenda in sixth, Jo Terwilliger in seventh and Gloria Belton.
Members of the Centre FFA Chapter also traveled March 30 to Fort Scott to compete in a variety of events.
The Ag Business team finished second with team members Jo Terwilliger in second and Kevin Mueller in fourth individually. Alfonse Klenda was the third team member.
The Dairy Foods team finished fifth with Savik Howard finishing ninth individually. Other team members were Alisha Barney, Kristine Jirak and James Weber.
Julie Rziha finished fifth in Junior Public Speaking. Heath Hill finished eighth in the Freshmen Division.
The Tabor College Concert Band and Jazz Band, under the direction of Richard Cantwell, professor of instrumental music and chair of the music department, will be on spring tour from Friday, April 20, to the following Tuesday.
A home concert will be performed on Sunday, April 29, at Tabor College.
With the theme, “Let There Be Praise,” the concert band will perform a variety of literature including sacred texts, marches, selections from Broadway shows, selections from opera and music for solo flute and solo trumpet.
The jazz band will perform traditional 1940s swing selections.
The tour will include a variety of performance venues, including school concerts and worship gatherings.
The schedule is as follows: Belleview Community Church, Littleton, Colo., April 20; South Mountain Community Church, Draper, Utah, April 22; Old Town Square Plaza, downtown Fort Collins, Colo., April 23; Heritage Christian School, Fort Collins, Colo., April 24; Tabor College Chapel-Auditorium, 7 p.m., April 29.
The public is invited to attend these performances.
The Hillsboro High School commons area was abuzz Monday afternoon as
HHS hosted the Mid-Central Activities Association league forensics
meet. The commons was the staging area students used to hang out
between events. To make room(s) for the the competition, classes in the
high school and middle school were dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Results of
the contest were not available at press
time.
Marion High School and Marion Middle School have released their respective honor rolls for academic success during the third quarter of the 2006-07 school year.
To be included on the high honor roll, a student needs a grade-point average between 4.0 and 3.75. An asterisk (*) denotes a 4.0 GPA.
To be named to the regular honor roll, a GPA of betwen 3.74 and 3.5 is required.
To be named to the honorable mention honor roll, students need a GPA between 3.49 and 3.0.
