Brison Gooch of Silverton, Colo., now retired after a 45-year teaching career at universities across the country, was on the Tabor campus last Tuesday for a reception in appreciation of the gift.

GHS musicians rate well at state PDF Print E-mail

Goessel High musicians earned 77 medals in the State Class 1A Solo/Ensemble Music Festival Saturday in Wichita.

Students earning a “I” rating were the Brass Choir, Girls Vocal Ensemble, Flute Ensem­ble I, Flute Ensemble II, Amy Brubaker (vocal), Elbiata, Laura Unruh (vocal), Joylin Hall (vocal), Kory Hiebert (vocal), Laura Unruh (clarinet), Cameron Voth (vocal), Amy Brubaker (clarinet), Janessa Wedel (clarinet), Clarinet Quartet, Chrystiana Voth (vocal), Ryan Goertzen (vocal).

Students or groups earning a “II” rating were Kristin Unruh (vocal), Nathan Amstutz (vocal), Kristin Unruh (flute) and Austin Unruh (vocal).

The students are under the instruction of choir director Greg Bontrager and band director Bud Meisel.

 Hillsboro High School student Ben Bosworth (left) is congratulated by Marck Cobb, president of the Anatoly Karpov School of Chess in Lindsborg for receiving a full scholarship to this summer's Anatoly Karpov International Chess School camp July 8-13 with Grand­master Yury Shulman in Lindsborg. The presentation was made Wednesday. Bosworth finished 63rd out of 167 high school players at the state chess tournament in Maize earlier this spring.
