Hey, kids. Thanks to everyone who has been asking me about the status of my recovering ACL. I really do appreciate your concern and stuff. However, I realize that not all of you see me every day at the pool or grocery store but are DYING to know how I’m doing…so I’ll just give you a wee little update.
Since I’ve been cleared to do “whatever” as long as it doesn’t make my knee “hurt or swell,” I’ve been trying to spend as much time as my body will allow getting back into the swing of things.
My doctor and coach have told me that could take as long as a year for me to trust my knee fully and play basketball “normally,” but I want to play so badly that I’m willing to put in the time and work.
So I’m kind of thinking of this column in terms of numbers—number of days until things happen, number of days since something has happened, number of any random thing that comes to my mind....
I’ve recently made a bunch of Canadian friends and got to visit them over Christmas break with my friend, Sara. We were crazy excited to hang out with them, but couldn’t stop laughing at how randomly different we were, as Americans. The differences we discovered don’t actually matter, but we just found them…odd.
This summer, as well last spring and the past two summers, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work with the homeless during week-long trips to Los Angeles.
I realized that each person on the streets has a story, a time before he or she was homeless, and an individual reason for being so.
